Super Bowl XLVIII

SuperBowl2014-MattGoold

Looky, looky, the Seawhawks and the Broncos made it to the Super Bowl this year to each have a go at being the greatest team in the world (this year). It’s a pretty exciting Super Bowl—more exciting than we’ve seen in the past few years—and I think no matter how the game turns out, it’ll be a fun one to watch. That being said, it would be most fun if the Seahawks won because it feels right for a team with lime green in their uniform to win a championship. I also like the narrative of Peyton Manning having an insane season—maybe the best by any quarterback ever—failing to get to the ultimate prize. It’s what made the Giants beating the perfect Patriots in ’07 far more interesting than a potential perfect season.

I liked the idea of representing each team with the things that made them up and letting the overlap of the sections be the things that brings them together, the game itself. Design bomb, it’s also in the shape of a football. Do you see that Roger Goodell? I care about the details.

Super Bowl XLVI

The Super Bowl. A game where people come together to watch their favorite team beat the other guy. Or watch a team they like beat a team they don’t like. Or in my case, watch two teams they don’t like play a rematch of a Super Bowl game that happened just four years ago. Yeah, the New York Giants vs the New England Patriots. It’s not ideal, it’s pretty far from it… I actually can’t think of a worse possible outcome, but regardless, I’ll be watching. And hopefully before game time I can be nudged centimeters to one side or the other so I can root for someone.

I’ve made it a habit of making posters for the Super Bowl for the past few years, and so I did again this year. Whether or not you like football, watching the Super Bowl is fun. But I find it hard that people don’t like football.

I mean, in the words of the great Jason Street #6:

Kid: Mr. Street, do you think God loves football?
Jason: I think that everybody loves football.

Super Bowl XLV

I followed football closer this year than I have any year since 1999. This was in part of joining a fantasy league through my work. It was good to get introduced to a whole bunch of players I’d never heard of, and see which teams got awesome, and which ones became horrible. Oddly enough, I’ve been following the Packers all year because I drafted their QB Aaron Rodgers, and so I usually wound up watching their games every week. He’s one of the most exciting players to watch, and is a really stand out player with a long career ahead of him. On top of really liking Green Bay this year, I’ve never liked the Steelers and so, I’m going Green Bay all the way!

I made this poster mainly because I made one last year, but I figured this could be something I do every year. Even if you don’t like football, it’ always fun to pick a team and watch the Super Bowl with some friends. So go ahead and make that happen.
