1 Year Anniversary! 100th Post!

I can’t believe it’s lined up so perfectly, but today, and this post, marks both my 1 year anniversary of this blog, and my 100th post. It feels like I’ve been doing this forever, and at the same time, it feels like this past year just flew by. Much has happened in this time, I got hired full time (my initial reason for starting this), Nom Now has emerged as a tower of power (to add to the list of stuff going on today, we’re in our first real deal art show Power In Numbers tonight in Philly), and I’ve gotten a few awesome clients. It’s been awesome, and here’s to hoping this next year is as bonkers as the past one.

Toy Story

In honor and anticipation of the new Toy Story movie, which comes out this Friday. I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a long time. In the words of my friend Dan, the biggest Pixar freak I know, “At the end of the day, whatever happens, there’s still going to be another Toy Story.”

Realize. Create. Beautify.

Last weekend I went to a park in Pitman to take a few photos for some projects I’m working on. I was sorting through them a little last night and came across a few that I had no use for as far as what I originally needed. So I used a couple of them and made this. I had been looking to make something involving our mantra of sorts, “Realize. Create. Beautfiy.” and this finally felt right.

Contribute

I hadn’t made a strictly Nom Now poster in a bit, but with the Facebook page in full gear, I’m more excited about this than ever. Go on over and “like” it if you haven’t already, there will be many updates through there, and plenty of ways for you to get involved. Speaking of, that’s sort of where the inspiration for this came out. We’ve had quite a few people looking to get involved with Nom Now, and while I’m not in the business of turning people away, especially those looking to help, the idea is that you go out and do your own thing and contribute something of your own to the world. Because you can, and because you should. I’ve asked myself many times “How are you going to contribute?” It’s a question worth asking often. It keeps me in the mind set of never becoming stagnant. It’s also a reminder that our world is only comprised of what we put into it, that being said, we have quite the duty. I hope this all sparks something in you, and you “contribute” this week. Let us know what you’ve done, we’re looking for inspiration all day every day.

Impeach Chris Christie

Since my “Chris Christie Sucks” poster has gotten so much traffic, I wanted to expand on it and create something a little more “school friendly”. Not that “sucks” is particularly a crude word, and there are far worse words he deserves, but I was trying to think of something that could be hung in an elementary grade classroom. Teachers, students, parents, and those who care about the future of any of those… feel free to print this out and show your defiance at your public school. Here’s to hoping for a better New Jersey.

Dark Surfers Poster

So about two weeks ago I got to catch my friend Yapes’ new incarnation of music project he’s been working on for a while called Dark Surfers. It’s a full blown band now and they are doing things alllllll right. I was inspired to make this after I saw them. The poster is dark, yet also has a light side, much like the music…and the name! It’s a good example of the classic balance between silly and tough. Make it a point to catch a show with these guys.

Cymbals Eat Guitars!

Billy O’Brien asked me to create a poster for this Cymbals Eat Guitars show and I couldn’t have been happier to say yes. This is going to be such a great show, and yes, it’s only $2. I’ve had their album on blast for the past few days, because it’s so awesome. I am super stoked about these guys, and I’m hoping this poster will get me into their inner circle…I can hope right?

From Awesome To Awful

Sorry things have been so inactive here for the past two weeks. I am happy to say that it’s because I’m busy and my time is being filled with lots of work.

Anyway, my friend Oscar has been doing a project called “Ten Minute Designs”, he takes a phrase he hears at work and creates a poster for it in a ten minute time frame. So then one day Mike is telling me how he made something awesome for work, and it got shut down and he was literally told to make something “less cool”. I told him things went from awesome to awful in a matter of minutes, and he relayed that to Oscar, who wanted to use that for his TMD. Still following? So Oscar asked me to make one with him, and that’s what we have above. Mine is on top, and his is beneath. Interesting to see how we went in almost complete opposite directions. Check out his blog for more of his TMDs.

I promise I’ll have some more stuff up here soon, and like I said, I’ve thankfully been very busy, and as soon as some stuff wraps up, I’ll be putting it all on here.

River City Extension Record Release Poster

I had another great opportunity to make something for River City Extension. This time, the poster for their record release show. I wanted to do something reminiscent of an older movie poster, which wound up only serving as a loose guideline, and I was somehow influenced by the thought an old army band or something like that, which is where I was pulling the color scheme from. This show is going to be insane, and I highly recommend everyone doing everything they can in order to get there. Something tells me this night is going to be one you won’t want to miss. You’ll also finally be able to purchase The Unmistakable Man, which you all know by now, I designed. Confirm your attendance on facebook!

What’s Your Spirit Animal?

This past summer I was told by my friend Tara Toms, that my spirit animal is a deer. This was exciting to me because I’ve identified with this animal in the past and was glad to hear that she saw the connection. Since then, and maybe because of that, I feel like I’ve had many instances involving deer. One being driving home from Jesse Loux’s house with Ian at 3 in the morning on the foggiest road and seeing literally 25 or more deer in a five minute stretch. Plus I just recently got this. In short, I wanted to make something about this because it’s been really interesting to me lately, and this poster is what came of it.
Anyway, I encourage you to explore what your animal may be, and I don’t mean just taking an online quiz, really explore it!

Little Things

So I made this with my friend Russell in mind. He just set up this awesome tumblr of these collages he’s been doing. It’s really worth checking out!
Anyway, I told him that I was into this stuff, and he responded with the phrase on the poster above, and I just really loved it. It’s a little child-like rhyme that at the same time really holds a lot weight. As an artist or creative person we need to continually strive to keep on making things, let this be an inspiration. I worked in a color scheme I almost never work in, but it kind of reminds me of Russell which is cool.
I’m thinking of trying to print these out and give them to you if you want?

Snowy Days

Here’s a video I put together of Nicky G getting out into the snow in during the blizzard. Everyone thought it would be funny for someone to do it wearing almost no clothes, and of course Nick was up for such a thing. Enjoy.

Super Bowl XLIV

I don’t dislike football, but I never seem to be able to commit to watching a season. Even the playoffs don’t do much for me in the way the NBA or MLB ones do. However, I always take interest in the Super Bowl. I don’t really know why, but every year I feel like I should be having a Super Bowl party. If nothing else, it’s an excuse to spend time with your friends.I wanted to make something for it, and I liked the visual idea of actual saints and colts. Hope you have a great time watching, and hopefully the team your rooting for wins. I’m going Saints!

Sitting Bull

I made this for a show I did last year of all portraits. This was pre-Nom Now days, so in the spaces where I could have repped that, I gave it to BCDQ and Sons Of Longley. That ain’t bad though!

In some odd turn of events, this never made it onto the internet until now, so I wanted to show it to whoever is looking.
Anyway, Native Americans are so cool, and I want to do more stuff involving them.

Julius Various

It’s been a long while, and I want to show some stuff that I did over the past few weeks, that slipped through the cracks and never got put up anywhere.

I made this poster for my friend Amy Fread for her birthday.

My friends from Black Churches asked me to help them out with a design for their new EP cover. I was happy to do so. The album was actually released today. Don’t be a dope, just listen to them.

The printed version was done up by Radish White Ice Design.

And lastly, here’s a Nom Now idea I had a while ago that I just forgot about until now.

I promise I’ll have more stuff up soon.
